Crowder Battles Through High-Scoring Week of Tough Contests
Crowder College baseball faced a challenging slate last week, highlighted by explosive offensive innings, late‑game surges, and several standout individual performances. Despite a series of competitive efforts, the Roughriders finished the week going 1-1 against Seminole State (OK) and winless against nationally ranked Iowa Western.
Crowder 9, Seminole State 8 – February 17 (Game 1)
Crowder opened the week with a dramatic extra‑inning win in Seminole. After falling behind 4–1 early, the Roughriders answered with a three‑run fourth and continued to chip away before adding two critical runs in the eighth to secure a 9–8 victory.
Crowder’s offense pounded out 12 hits, while Seminole countered with three home runs. The Riders capitalized on two SSC errors and timely hitting to edge out the road win.
Seminole State 12, Crowder 9 – February 17 (Game 2)
In the nightcap, Crowder once again came out swinging—scoring six runs in the first two innings and holding a 6–3 lead heading into the third. Seminole responded with steady scoring across five straight innings, ultimately overtaking Crowder 12–9.
Maddox Morrison delivered a huge game with a home run, triple, and three RBI, while Camren Stratton added three hits and two RBI. However, Seminole’s seven walks drawn and two home runs proved too much to overcome in the end.
Iowa Western 16, Crowder 12 – February 19 (Game 1)
In a wild offensive battle at home, Crowder erupted for a 10‑run fifth inning to climb back from a double‑digit deficit, cutting Iowa Western’s lead to 12–11. The Reivers added insurance late, holding off Crowder 16–12.
Brady Nolen powered the Rider offense with a home run, four RBI, and two runs scored, while Jansen Roberts and Lawson Ward each drove in multiple runs. The teams combined for six home runs in the matchup.
Iowa Western 13, Crowder 9 – February 19 (Game 2)
Game two of the series mirrored the first in offensive fireworks. Iowa Western struck early with nine runs in the first three innings, but Crowder fought back with a four‑run seventh to pull within reach before falling 13–9.
Hudson Hosman doubled and drove in a run, while Lawson Ward launched a three‑run homer. Crowder collected 12 hits, but defensive miscues—four errors—proved costly against a disciplined Reivers lineup.
Iowa Western 13, Crowder 7 – February 20
The final matchup saw Iowa Western again start fast, scoring four in the opening three innings and breaking the game open with a six‑run fifth. Crowder rallied for four runs in the ninth, but the comeback fell short in a 13–7 loss.
Maddox Morrison capped a standout week with three hits and four RBI, including another extra‑base hit. Camren Stratton added two RBI, while the Roughriders drew 14 walks but couldn’t convert enough opportunities.
The fourth game of the series was cancelled due to cold temperatures.
The Roughriders will return to competition Tuesday at Labette.
