The Roughriders closed out the first half of their season with three games at the Region 16 Showdown in Poplar Bluff, MO. Crowder took on State Fair on Friday night. The Roadrunners scored off the opening tip but Crowder scored on consecutive possessions and led the rest of the game. The Roughriders outscored State Fair every quarter for the 92-62 win. Crowder had five players in double figures led by freshman Jonisha Rolle's 19 points and 13 rebounds. Makayla White added 12 points and a team high 6 blocks. Gabby Adams and Teri Leaf each had 11 and Ashley Reichert chipped in 10. Nathalia Silva dished out 6 assists and had 3 steals.
Saturday afternoon the Roughriders took on Moberly. Crowder got off to a slow start as the Greyhounds outscored them 20-12 in the first quarter. Moberly led by as many as 17 but the Roughriders pulled to within 11 at halftime. Crowder changed defenses the second half and it seemed to stymie Moberly as they outscored them 13-9 in the third quarter to cut the lead to 48-41. The Roughriders tied the game at 51 all on a Nathalia Silva jumper with 1:33 left in the game. Teri Leaf came up with a steal on the ensuing possession. Maia Wright got fouled and sank two free throws to give Crowder their first lead of the game 53-51 with 49.4 seconds left. Leaf and Fiona Wilson sealed the game at the free throw line to give the Roughriders a 60-53 win. Wilson led a trio of Roughriders in double figures with 15 points. Leaf added 12 points and Wright chipped in 11. Makayla White, Jonisha Rolle and Wright hauled in 8 rebounds each. Silva dished out 3 assists.
Playing their third game in three days the Roughriders took on Mineral Area on Sunday afternoon. Crowder jumped out to a 14-11 lead after one quarter but Mineral Area had a big second quarter outscoring Crowder 20-11 giving them a 31-23 halftime lead. The Roughriders outscored the Cardinals 18-14 to pull within four points heading to the fourth quarter. With 3:30 to go in the game Crowder trailed 51-50 but Mineral Area hit back to back three point field goals to take a lead that Crowder couldn't recover from as they fell 67-56. Nathalia Silva led Crowder with 13 points and 4 assists. Maia Wright added 11 points and 7 rebounds. Fiona Wilson chipped in 10 points and added 3 steals. Jonisha Rolle had a team high 9 rebounds.
Crowder is 8-6 on the season and returns to action on January 2nd as they host Redlands at 6:00 PM.
