Crowder opened up the 2019-20 season at the North Ark Classic in Harrison, AR. On Friday night the Roughriders took on Coffeyville and got off to a slow start trailing 17-7 after one quarter. Crowder came alive in the second quarter and outscored the Red Ravens 20-8 for a 27-25 lead at the half. The Roughriders kept it close for about 5 minutes in the third quarter but then Coffeyville pulled away for the 74-56 victory. Three freshman led the way with Fiona Wilson's 17 on 3 of 4 from behind the arc. Jonisha Rolle and Makayla White each chipped in 10 points while White hauled in a team high 8 rebounds. Nathalia Silva and Maia Wright each had two assists.
Saturday Crowder faced the Missouri Baptist JV and they were deadlocked 12-12 after one quarter of play. The Spartans outscored Crowder in the second quarter for a 31-26 lead at the half. The teams traded baskets in the third quarter and Crowder trailed 43-36 after three quarters. The Spartans stretched the lead to ten but the Roughriders kept battling and clawed their way back into the game. Nathalia Silva weaved a pass to Jonisha Rolle who tied it up with 3.3 seconds left in the game. After a timeout Crowder's defense kept the opponents from getting a shot off and the game was headed to overtime. The Roughriders dominated the extra period holding the Spartans to one point in route to the 63-58 victory. Sophomore Ashley Reichert led all scorers with a career high 24 points. Freshman Jonisha Rolle turned in the first double double of her young career with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Nathalia Silva had 9 rebounds while Makayla White led with 4 assists and Maia Wright had 2 steals.
Crowder is 1-1 on the season and opens the home portion of their schedule next weekend when they host the Roughrider Classic on Nov. 8-9. The schedule is as follows:
