To kick off our 2018 campaign for the roughriders softball team, we headed down south to visit the home of the reigning National Champions in LSU- Eunice. While down in Eunice the team went 2-2 with scores of game 1: 1-9, game 2: 12-9, game 3: 6-7, and game 4: 4-3.
Throughout the 4 games some of the highlight performances at the plate came from Sophomore infielder Makaila Leonhart where she totaled 5 hits and 3 RBIs, and freshman infielder Kenzie Kallio also totaled 5 hits on the weekend.
Other standout performances came from sophomore catcher Maggy Rieschick where she had 4 hits and 4 RBIs, as well as freshman infielder Kristen Wade where she had 4 hits including a homerun and 3 RBIs, and freshman outfielder Eila Infante also had 4 hits on the weekend.
Freshman catcher Baylor Miles also added 3 hits and 2 RBIs for the weekend, and a highlight of the weekend came in the 4th game when sophomore utility player Theresa Collins comes up with bases loaded and hit a grandslam for the Roughriders which would be all the runs they would need after a great 7 inning performance from freshman pitcher Kylah Clark.
While down in Louisiana we were able to try some of the local food as well as listen to some good local music, While we were getting ready to head back we got the chance to visit downtown Baton Rouge and got to walk on the riverwalk and get to see some of the local sightseeing places. We are also so thankful for the wonderful hospitality, not only of the people of Louisiana, but also for the family of our very own Emma Hill who so graciously took us into their home and cooked us some good cajun food.
